Design of Roll Over Protection Systems and Trailer Rear Impact Guards Using ANSYS Mechanical Energy Absorption Calculations

Many companies use ANSYS to reduce chance of injury and death when an accident occurs such as the overturning of a tractor or the rear impact crash of a car into the back of a trailer. An effective method to minimize danger to vehicle occupants during an accident is to ensure that that the structure absorbs sufficient energy through plastic deformation during the accident impact.

Many vehicles have Roll Over Protection Systems (ROPS) to reduce injury to operators. Figure 1 shows a Bobcat skid steer loader including its ROPS, which is the black cage structure surrounding the driver. Continue reading

DRD Technology Corporation Adds North Dakota and South Dakota to Its ANSYS Sales Territory

In early 2015 DRD Technology Corporation completed an agreement with ANSYS, Inc. to expand DRD’s ANSYS sales, service, and support territory to include the states of North Dakota and South Dakota. DRD began selling and supporting the ANSYS engineering simulation software in north Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas in 1985. DRD added the states of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa to its ANSYS sales territory in 1986.

“This is the first time we’ve added new states to our ANSYS territory since 1986, and DRD is extremely pleased to have the opportunity to sell and support ANSYS products in North Dakota and South Dakota”, said Chris Andersen, President of DRD Technology. “These states have some of the most sophisticated companies in the U.S. when it comes to utilization of engineering simulation”.

Andy Bax, DRD’s Vice President, added that “North Dakota and South Dakota are an excellent match for DRD’s experience and support models. DRD makes a point of having regular face to face interaction with our clients, but the demographics of states like North Dakota and South Dakota also require extensive use of web based customer interaction to provide the level of support that ANSYS customers expect and need to reach their maximum return on investment in ANSYS.”

DRD client Andy Wehseler, Advanced Analysis Manager at Bobcat in Gwinner, ND, is also pleased with DRD’s new role in North Dakota. Mr. Wehseler said, “Through a unique arrangement, DRD has been a long-time supplier of ANSYS software and support for Bobcat. DRD has always been easy to work with and responsive to our simulation needs. We are pleased to see their coverage expanding to include our geographical area.”

DRD Technology Corporation was founded in 1980 as Drilling Resources Development Corporation to develop engineering simulation software for the oil and gas drilling industry. DRD began a software distributor relationship with ANSYS, Inc. in 1985, and since 1996 DRD has focused exclusively on selling and supporting the ANSYS suite of engineering simulation products.
